Energy Efficent Heating at Home‘Tablecloth design moment’ sparks hot new EcoSmart™ Fire

It’s sleek, it’s chic, it was a ‘tablecloth design moment’ – and it’s the latest design to join the ever-evolving and avant-garde EcoSmart™ Fire Collection. Named Zeta, it’s the idea of John Dimopoulos from geoform design architects, the first architect to ever specify EcoSmart Fires in Australia.

“It’s amazing where new designs come from!” says Stephane Thomas, director of EcoSmart™ Fire creator, The Fire Company. “We’re always thinking ahead, innovating, using new technology, new shapes, new materials, joining forces with top designers – and ensuring the highest quality.

“John’s clever design is testament to the fact EcoSmart™ Fires are igniting the imaginations of design professionals around the world.” John’s creation was sparked when he was dining at a restaurant and much later, with no paper or pens lying around, he found a texta and tissue box and so created the initial design. “I had been thinking about some beautiful way to hold a fire for some time, as I’ve known and loved the EcoSmart™ Fire from the outset,” John says.

The result is a fireplace that John describes as unique on an abstract level. “The original Zeta was in timber, and the concept is of fire coming out of a non-combusting timber fold. What I find engaging is the tension of the fire being held by things you normally expect to burn,” he says.

The resolved Zeta cleverly and carefully melds timber, leather and stainless steel. The body of the fire is made from cold-pressed plywood which is shaped into the perfect elliptical shape. A thin stainless steel firebox insert is moulded to the internal face of the plywood, and the outer surface is upholstered in stitched leather, with the edges pressed and trimmed. Versatility is key, and not only is the Zeta portable, it also sits on a chrome-plated swivel base. And it comes in a range of colours – black, white, camel, chocolate and red.

“EcoSmart™ Fires have been described as works of art, and with all our models we like to create a statement – and the absolute flexibility means owners of EcoSmart™ Fires can create their own masterpieces,” says Thomas.

With the EcoSmart™ Fire Collection, safety is paramount. And the Zeta is no exception. It features toughened glass fins on either side to enclose the flame and separate the leather from the stainless steel. The Zeta EcoSmart™ Fire will be released on 1 September 2008, and further enhances the stunningly diverse EcoSmart™ Fire Collection. “In 2006 the EcoSmart Fire was awarded the ‘Best of Year’ Roscoe Award for most popular innovation at the New York Interior Design Awards – but we won’t rest on our laurels,” says Thomas. “We pride ourselves on originality and creating designs which resonate with professionals and consumers alike.”
