Electric Bikes, Ebikes and Electric Bicycles – changing the way we move
»Thursday, January 28,2010
Electric Bikes, Electric Bicycles and Ebikes – all these three words mean the same. Electric bikes are in fact very similar to conventional push bicycles but with extra added value. These have a quiet and efficient 250W motors and the lithium-ion batteries that make cycling more efficient in many ways.
Electric bikes or Ebikes are also a very cost effective solution in moving from the A to B. This is a perfect solution for large group of receivers including commuters, students, elderly pensioners and those who wish they could cycle but unfortunately due to health problems can not do it.
The electric bikes have enormous advantages over the other forms of transport. The best thing about them is the running cost and low maintenance. The full battery recharge cost it on the average between 6-10 pence and this can have a range of up to 60 miles. For most of people electric bikes are used to commute from A to B. Moving around is quick and quiet. The traffic jams do not apply to electric bikes. There is also another large range of benefits that ebikes have.
In terms of running costs there aren’t almost any. The maintenance is extremely low and does not cost more than servicing of a regular bicycle. The motors are brushless and therefore there is no need to maintain them. The batteries can do between 500 -2000 recharge cycles keeping them a life between two and five years. Other benefit from having the electric bike is no need of paying a road tax and doing an annual MOT testing.
Riding such a thing is not just quick and efficient. It’s a constant grin on the users face. Riding electric bikes is very easy. There is no need of having the driving licence and anyone who is aged more than 14 years old is allowed to ride. Most of the electric bikes offer two modes of riding. Pedelec is a mode, which assist the rider constantly while pedalling. The throttle only mode enables user to ride without any need of pedalling.
Electric bikes have also minimal impact on the environment. The CO2 emissions from the electricity used to run them are minimal. In this way we can contribute to help to reduce our carbon foot print.
Main benefits for electric bikes:
• Low running cost
• Battery recharge costs only 6-10 pence
• No congestion charge
• No road tax
• No need of driving licence
• No parking problems
• No road tax
• No need of MOT
• No need of insurance
• Quick recharge time 2-5 hours
Overall the advantages of owning the electric bike are enormous and it’s definitely something worth to consider.
