The 2010 World Cup in South Africa has so far been a rather lacklustre affair with the lowest rate of goals scored in any World Cup to date and the primary reason being identified by players and coaches is the ball it’s self. England coach Fabio Capello branded  the Jabulani  as the “worst ball I have seen in my life…It is terrible for the players and it is terrible for the keepers. When you try to switch the ball with long passes it is really difficult to understand where it is going to go” he  went  on to say (on BBC Radio 5 live) "But the really big problem is that sometimes this ball is impossible to control."

The reason why the Jabulani  has different flight and control characteristics to balls most players are familiar with is that it is not a hand stitched football , as are used in The Premiership and most other leagues world Wide,  but is thermo bonded  in a  patented technical process that only Adidas can perform.

This patented process has created the ‘smoothest ball ever’  which might explain why it appears to fly more like a balloon then a football. With the chorus of complaints getting louder by the day this seems like a good time to reiterate that  the best quality footballs are hand stitched in Sialkot, Pakistan which has decades of experience in manufacturing quality footballs that professionals the world over are familiar with playing with.

ETHLETIC Fairtrade footballs are not only hand stitched to the highest standards but guarantee a better deal for football stitchers making the best quality and ethical choice for  professionals and amateurs. We will be sending Mr Capelo a few samples  to confirm that hand stitched balls will always out perform a thermo bonded football.

We should clarify that some players have come out strongly in favour of the Jubalani, not least Kaka himself, by a complete coincidence the Brazilian superstar has a long standing sponsorship arrangement with… Adidas.
