Low Carbon Designs by Green Structures win two Sustainable Construction Awards
»Friday, January 15,2010
Green Structures’ innovative take on Sustainable Architecture and Environmental Refurbishment was well rewarded when it received both Bronze and Gold Awards at the annual Green Apple Environment Awards ceremony held at House of Commons in November 2009.
The judges were overwhelmed by the holistic approach and the attention to detail that the team at Green Structures paid to each of submitted projects. As a result both schemes: Sustainable New Build and Low Carbon Retrofit, were awarded top marks. Judges comments were as follows:
“Bronze – Green Structures – Kings Langley Passive House
The brief for this project was simple yet ambitious; to create a traditional and non-threatening dwelling which is ultra low carbon, and simple to make zero carbon, to make it fully functional without compromising ease of use or comfort. Sustainability was built in at every stage and future friendly technology ensures a long green life for the home.
Gold – Green Structures – Zero Carbon Loft
This seemingly small development has potentially huge impact. As a demonstrator of the state-of-the-art sustainable technologies it goes far beyond its four walls to give a crystal clear model of how a virtually off-grid carbon free dwelling is a practical affordable reality for many people. Key to the design was to be simple and elegant in form and function without any of the sci-fi or agricultural elements generally associated with a sustainable lifestyle.”
The trophies were presented at The House of Commons, Westminster by Alexandra Bastedo the international actress best known for numerous star roles – including The Champions; as a James Bond Girl; and most recently in East Enders.
The Green Apple Awards campaign is run by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-profit organisation that recognises, rewards and promotes environmental best practice around the world. Their supporters include the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institution of Waste Management, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and various other professional bodies.
Thomas Lipinski, the company’s founder, said at the time: “It is such an overwhelming pleasure that our work is acknowledged and appreciated. This year there were over 500 submissions for the Award and to scoop both Bronze and Gold trophy against such numerous competition is quite a feat. We are also working hard on other exciting Low Carbon Designs as well as groundbreaking Retrofit projects so I expect the whole team to be back here next year.”
Green Structures is an award winning architectural and project management practice specialising in environmental design, environmental refurbishment and sustainable construction. Following years of research and development as well as bold experimentation on site, Green Structures developed range of specific construction methods for achieving the highest Sustainability and Energy Efficiency targets. In their approach they strive to maximise the visual, space and environmental benefits for their clients following a strong belief that buildings need to perform, look great and be enjoyable to live in.
